Promotion of Fruit Crop Production through Provision of True to Type/Certified Plants

This project is initiated under the present Government vision to enhance productivity & profitability of fruit crops,   to improve the socio economic condition of the fruit growers, through replacement of old, diseased, un-productive and un-economical fruit orchards by true to type disease free, clean and certified fruit plants for enhancement of production, and these plants will be provided for increasing productivity and income of orchards through this endeavor for domestic consumption and export.  The project under question is in line with the Prime Minister “Billion Tree Plantation Package Scheme”, as the fruit plants not only act as trees/ plants but also a source of provision of food to the community. The specific Objectives of the project are Food security management in holistic manner, Emphasis on innovative technologies to bring vertical & horizontal crop Productivity, Increase farmer income through increased crop productivity, better support Prices & diversified agriculture, Ensure quality & purity of farm inputs, Development and adoption of new technologies for enhancing crop productivity, Improve living standard of farming community by reducing poverty, Transform Punjab’s agriculture into a market driven, diversified & sustainable, Sector through integrated climate smart technology transforming and value for money.

Total Cost:  Rs. 500 Million
Allocation in ADP 2019-20: Rs. 100 Million

Horticulture Research Institute

  • 28 total of approval of varieties  (pomegranate, ber, guava and date palm)

Barani Agricultural Research Institute
